The protection was 50% (45−55) after the first dose and 62% (40−76) after the second dose against symptomatic Dengue, and 68% (43-81) after the first dose against hospitalization.

Several sensitivity analysis were comparable to these results.

DENV-1 and DENV-2 were the main circulating serotypes, but DENV-3 emerged more consistently by the end of year.
Because of low sample size, we could not conduct serotype-specific analysis for vaccine effectiveness.

Ever heard of BRICNET?

It’s the Brazilian Network for Critical Care Research—born in 2007 from a driven group of colleagues. Since then, it’s grown into a global force in critical care science.

Proud to be part of this journey!

Peri-intubation adverse events: #BARCO study

- 18 centres in 🇧🇷
- 2846 patients
- Major adverse events in 919 (32.3%) intubations:

- Mainly: new hemodynamic instability (20.0%), severe hypoxemia (12.5%) and cardiac arrest (3.5%).

Many other insights here:

Females and older were most affected. The overall association was robust to 3 sensitivity analyses, including one adjusting for the number of cases.

This short-term effect of heat on dengue severity matches the mechanisms of severe Dengue and heat (alterations on coagulation/dehidratation, etc).

We evaluated a times series of 10y in Brazil, analysing ~580k Dengue hospitalisations and ambient temperature from ERA5-Land.

Using the #CaseTimesSeries design, we observed an ⬆️ risk in dengue hospitalisation across the country and each region. The shape of association was unclear at the North.

Does heat have a short effect on Dengue, increasing risk for severe cases?

We know meteorological factors affect dengue incidence, with lag effects on weeks/months.

Here, led by @rafalpx.bsky.social, we found also a short effect of heat for Dengue Hospitalisation

All regions of the country was affected. During some weeks, the number of admissions by hospital beds was higher for Influenza than Omicron (also see first figure).

Ending 2021, Brazil had two outbreaks: its 1st Omicron wave and an out-of-season Influenza A H3N2

The burden was massive. Here we describe what happened in terms of strain in the system, patients, and clinically describe the co-infections:
