As a side note, 5 million yen (roughly $32k USD) is such a paltry sum for a patent infringement case—at least by American standards. This is almost certainly just a show of force. Nintendo has a reputation of vigorously defending its IP, and this lawsuit is just them playing to that.

So, if not for Palworld, Legends Arceus may have been kept under wraps for longer. No idea if it would have affected the development or release timeline, though. It’s also possible the timing of the trailer was coincidence. But considering Nintendo’s litigious reputation, it was likely intentional.

The original Palworld announcement trailer (www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqTJ...) didn’t show capturing. If it had, there could be an argument that the mechanic as described in the patents is not novel. That could be why the Legends Arceus trailer, which is cited in the patents, shows capturing.
