Completely fair point. I guess I'm just too used to threat models of "everyone is an adversary" :D

To be completely fair, disappearing messages as a feature has no worth because you can't guarantee that the recipient didn't screenshot or kept a copy somewhere. It's a very "good faith" feature that, in all applicable threat models, is rendered useless.
