Or any pilot book? Here‘s an example for East Anglia. Numbers are speed in knots at neaps and springs. Obviously the coastline has changed since the early Middle Ages. But I’d be surprised if that made more than local differences to overall picture.

Worth looking at a modern Admiralty tidal atlas? Gives tidal flow hourly in a visually easy to understand way (thicker/bigger arrows for stronger flow). Ferguson’s chapter in Petts & Turner’s collection on Early Medieval Northumbria has some sailing times.

I empathise, Fraser. The job market outside of academia is not rosy, and there are lots of barriers to entry into related fields. I really hope something comes through for you soon.
