They also require massive quantities of bee hives to be shipped in from surrounding states to pollinate the crops. The heavy use of chemicals is hard on hives- when we shipped ours to pollinate crops we always ended with almonds because the bees required months to recover.

And almonds are incredibly water intensive- the water footprint of a single almond is estimated at 12L.

Yes- because Medicaid is the federal program and they fund the state programs - it’s a joint thing. I don’t think all states participate however.

The good insurance is through employers, yes. We do have state-funded insurance (depends on the state) for low income people. Here in Oregon, G is on the state health plan because he was adopted from the foster system. Not all states have this option though- and not all providers take it.

Yes, we have health insurance. We have “good” coverage and our deductible before insurance will pay a dime is $3000 a person for in-network providers or $6,000 a family. After that we pay 10% until we meet our out of pocket max of around $7000 a year for family, THEN the insurance will pay 100%
