There is an ancient bit from a German comedian's routine where he countered a quote by our then-chancellor about not falling into superficial anti-Americanism with "but mine isn't superficial at all". This got way more relevant after 2016, I feel.

To reply to this with the most appropriate quote by you: "Congrats. You lived, bitch."

Group A might have Ireland as its fourth team, too. Ouch.

I wondered why your Worst of 2021 list cuts out after the dishonorable mentions...

Fair enough, though that deserves its own post, I feel. As a reply here, it might give the impression that boycotting the world cup has anything to do with Israel.
December 5, 2025 at 5:36 AM
...how does the world cup enter into this? Israel aren't even qualified for that.

The EBU's area of influence goes beyond Europe. Morocco took part in 1980, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia are dubiously European at best et cetera. Israel still being allowed in 2026 blows, but they are members of the organisation, same as Sweden or Spain.

Some already have. Let's see if the four who have withdrawn get joined by more.

I hate to do this to both of us, but this does say 21st century, so The Big Lebowski doesn't qualify (and O Brother barely squeezes in).

Maybe go to a few select graveyards to piss on the graves of Mr. Rogers and Bob Ross, too. Nash is right - this woman could manage to step on a rake on a freshly frozen lake.

I was more surprised not to see Jesus to a Child here.

I'll go the bleeding obvious route and say that, broadly speaking, Tom Ewing was right about both of these songs.

In terms of Billboard #1 hits, the most successful Swedish band isn't ABBA (who only have one), but Roxette, with four.

The best detail about the quoted post: 510 repost/quote interactions, 17 actual reposts, quotes now deactivated. This idiot thought he was making a point, and he was - that no one needs him on their TL.

17 reposts, 510 next to the double arrows, quotes deactivated. I wonder why. STFD STFU and go hug a Pinthi.

I have no idea what DE is referring to here, and since I have quite a particular association for those initials, let's just say this is producing some hilarious mental images for me. (The association being Disco Elysium.)

New Secret Lair Alert?

Net positive approval below +5 (green) vs. net negative approval between 0 and -5, is my guess.
November 25, 2025 at 8:27 PM
Red and green on this map don't denote political leaning as such, but net approval/disapproval for the oaf in the White House, green being net positive (WTF, Idaho?!) and red being net negative.

Forest is not a creature type. This would work on the tokens made by Awaken the Woods (those are Dryads as well as Forests), but not for, say, lands made into creatures with Earthbending.

This is essentially what OG Lorwyn, OG Zendikar and OG Innistrad did, and in all three cases, sales for set 2 still went down.
November 22, 2025 at 10:42 AM
...and then learning that the next block would be Innistrad. I feel the current frequency is way too high, but blocks did have massive downsides.
November 22, 2025 at 1:40 AM
Also, while it was fun to see a block take its time to tell a story, that had a flipside - if you didn't like what a particular set was offering, it would take a year before something new would come along. Imagine not liking horror, sitting through Scars of Mirrodin block...
November 22, 2025 at 1:40 AM
The thing is, there are a lot of people nowadays who want to return to those days, but the sales never supported that. Every single block had diminishing returns for set 2, and even further down for set 3. No matter what tricks they tried to pull, nothing worked.
