My own hope for Bluesky has never been that Bluesky itself would be a durable refuge for vulnerable people, but that it would—alongside Mastodon’s new board and many fledgling initiatives—lay the necessary foundations for self-governance by communities that have the skill and devotion required to take care of their members on the open social internet. People aren’t misguided to want shelter from surveillance and harassment, or to seek high-context, community-centric moderation; all echo-chamber punditry notwithstanding, those are necessary conditions when life online has such direct and dramatic effects on the character of our offline societies. Bluesky the company is extremely unlikely to provide those things—not directly, not for all communities, and not in the ways many people need. But community-focused network projects built on top of AT Protocol—and Activity Pub, and the open protocols that will emerge in five or ten or fifteen years—remain our best way out of the manipulative societal (and sometimes quite literal) nightmare so much of the social internet has become.

SAAB's Gripen E was already on a nice roll before today's news, but a 150 jet agreement to Ukraine is HUGE. And, despite the lack of stealth, its electronic warfare and field maintenance capabilities make it an ideal plane for Ukraine.

Rodney Brooks is right that robots are nowhere near ready for deployment into spaces and tasks designed for humans. He's wrong in that being a hindrance for them to deployed there anyway.

My advice to people is to not come closer than 3 meters to a full size walking robot. And the walking robot companies know this too. Even in their videos you will not see people close to a locomoting humanoid robot unless there is a big table between them, and even then the humanoids only shuffle around a little bit, Until someone comes up with a better version of a two legged walking robot that is much safer to be near, and even in contact with, we will not see humanoid robots get certified to be deployed in zones that also have people in them.

I logged out of bsky.app in my browser, still have deer.social logged in though. But all Bridgy posts and Phanpy's link to source point to bsky.app anyway - and some users have that "must be logged in to view" thing on. Not @quillmatiq.com, but others.
Anuj Ahooja's post that he is self hosting his PDS - but the Bridgy link points to bsky.app anyway.

I don't do #silentsunday - more like #activesunday here. But a day trip to the lake house to prepare for freezing nights, followed by a nice bike ride. Past week has been first to feel like autumn instead of (very) late summer.
