The handwritten notes of a woman named Betty, 1921. It is her own recipe for infant formula. A note about Kissing young children. “KISSING - Are there any valid objections to kissing infants? There are many serious objections. Tuberculosis, diphtheria, syphilis, and many other grave diseases may be communicated in this way. The kissing of infants upon the mouth by other children, by nurses, or by people generally, should under no eircum-stances be permitted. Infants should be kissed, if at all, upon the cheek or forehead, but the less even of this the better.” A note to Nursing Mothers who may have a contagious sickness. “Should a mother with a cold continue to nurse her baby? The danger of infecting the child while nursing is considerable. Many common colds are very contagious and these often have serious consequences in young infants. It is not necessary to stop nursing, but while nursing, the mother should cover her mouth and nose with a handkerchief particularly when coughing or sneezing, and on no account should she kiss the infant.” A page showing a chart on how to gradually increase the amounts of formula recipe ingredients, for each month of growth for a child. Milk, Sugar, Water, Flour. “What is the simplest way of modifying milk for infant feeding? To use whole milk in the amounts required, diluted according to the principles just laid down, adding sugar, etc.”

I own this child rearing book from 1921 - A small section about Vaccines that might interest some.
An Older Book featuring a Green Cloth Cover. Someone has used it as a coaster at some point. “The Care and Feed of Children - L. EMMETT HOLT M.D” The Interior Title Page, revealing L. Holt as a “Professor of Diseases in Children in the College of Physicians and Surgeons (Columbia University.) Physician in Chief to the Babies’ Hospital, New York.” Printed 1921. Tenth Edition. Towards the end of the book there is a FAQ section about child care. Photo shows the section on Vaccines. “VACCINATION - Nowadays when small-pox occurs so seldom is it necessary to have every child vaccinated? It should by all means be done. It is only by the practice of general vaccination that small-pox is kept down. In countries or in communities where vaccination is neglected, frightful outbreaks of small-pox occur every now and then just as in olden times.” The following page about Vaccines for Children. “ Page 216 - THE CARE AND FEEDING OF CHILDREN What is the best time for vaccination? The time usually selected is from the third to the sixth month. It may be deferred in a very delicate child who is not likely to be exposed to small-pox, or in a child suffering from any form of skin disease. Which is preferable for vaccination, the arm or the leg? The part which can be most easily protected and kept at rest is to be chosen. In infants who do not yet walk or creep, the leg is to be preferred; in older children, in most circumstances, the arm. If older children are vaccinated on the leg, they should not be allowed to walk much while the vaccination is active. When should vaccination be repeated? An unsuccessful vaccination proves nothing and should be repeated in two or three weeks. If suc cessfully vaccinated in infancy, a child should invariably be revaccinated before puberty. If exposed or likely to be exposed to small-pox at any time vaccination should be repeated.”

Similar idea, I find a cheap squeegee helpful on heavier weight fabrics. Works great on upholstery as well.

mildly related, I’ve been reading a lot about orca captivity lately (biggest bummer on earth) and some of the press photos for killer whales are literally terrifying.
Seaworld - This is Shamu show. Woman posing on dock, with killer whale halfway out of the water & licking her face. Man in costume, posing with his head inside the open mouth of Killer Whale. Similar in spirit to a Lion Trainer posing in the jaw of a lion. Two young boys, and a Seaworld employee leaning to the mouth of a killer whale for a “kiss.” FWIW I believe this is a photo of Kona II.
