White out under water
It's serious
like a broken back

White folks and their daughters
She seems serious
flat on her back

Death is not an end but in fact marks the transition into something new, even if the next stage is obscured from view.

This tradition creates a range of acceptance from celebration to denial. This is so one can learn to recognize when they need to let go. Once death is accepted, and the Skull's job is done, then the illusory aspect of death begins to bloom.

The Skull is observing death outside oneself. Death witnessed yet not experienced. Repeatedly witnessing death allows for us to begin to experience our own mortality. There is no real threat of death in the Skull, only the salient reminder of its certainty-death is inevitable.

Awesome! Honest to god, "Humans Be Swayed" is my favorite early(ish) Thee Oh Sees song. It's from the four song "Moon Sick" EP, and is very rare in its original vinyl form.

Here's a playlist on YT, but you can also find it on Spotify and Apple Music.
