me when Santa cums down the chimney

i don’t often have much to say,
but recently i have this burning in my throat.
the fire engulfs my esophagus
and ignite my vocal cords.
i wouldn’t dare open my mouth and breathe the fire that has
started within me.
so i stay silent and extinguish the flames that have already burned me inside.

by the time I reached you,
my heart was stained like those tobacco leaves,
burnished with the fire of every step I took,
through fields that mirrored the warmth I’d soon find in you.
