The timing is also suspect with what's going on in the country, the "blame game", denial of federal aid...

Not really. Trump won because of the sad truth that no one wants to acknowledge, that the majority of the voters in this country are racist (and misogynist) AF! Obama's presidency "woke" them up. If the general voting populace cannot see the evils of the Republican party and still vote for them, then this is what this country deserves. Nobody wants to talk about the fact that a majority of the voting population is racist and misogynist AF. I mean, even Mexico elected a woman President first.
