Not only by the progressive choice, but also that they chose to align more with the girl's uniform.
I feel like most hoikushi are more progressive than a lot of Japanese, but then there are people who are well poops.

Skirts are the most difficult to get people to accept I find and I hate that your teacher isn't more supportive. My schools fully went non-gendered for their sports uniform (all teal instead of boys blue and girls pink/teal) I was really surprised (that's the uniform they're in most of the time).
