imo, we should have more places built as mixed use and get people used to the idea. We have had 70 years of "Suburbs are just houses!". A decade or two of mixed use might help people snap out of it.

I think part of the issue is that "Commercial" and "industrial" zoning is confusing to a lot of people. I wouldn't mind a small convivence store in the neighborhood (like bodegas in NYC) but I also wouldn't care for a Walmart being plopped down next door and I think most people agree.
