Light and atmosphere are what I remember about a location and what inspires me most. Light transforms the ordinary or even beautiful into the exceptional.
Contre-jour 30x60 Oils on Panel

This painting is inspired by one of my favorite locations for hiking, exploring, and painting, which is conveniently located just 15 minutes from my studio.

It was a real pleasure to capture the contrast between the warm light and the cool fog.

Flow, 30x24 Acrylics
I used to dislike painting in acrylics. I wanted them to be and act like oil paints. But once I leaned into what they do, how fast they dry, and how transparent many colors are, I began to enjoy the spontaneity and the ability to layer and glaze within a shortened time frame.

Even after 20 years of painting, stepping up to the easel can be intimidating. I try to remember to tell myself that it is not fear I'm feeling but rather excitement.
Optimism and hope is the way forward.
Pick up the brush.

I love starting my painting or doing studies for more extensive work using a minimal paint pallet or just black and white. How do you like to begin your paintings? #art #painting #discoverart

In progress today. 30x30, establishing values and shapes. I’m thinking this is going to be a very limited color palette, nearly Tonalist when I’m done.

“When you leave the theater wanting to discuss the play, that’s a good play. When you leave the theater wanting to discuss your life and the world, that’s art.”
