Another major purpose would be hindering the moneyed interests' ability to influence politicians. If politicians cannot be enwealthed, then limited are their abilities to be persuaded, influenced, or bribed. The remaining resorts of the oligarchical class would be coercion like threats or violence.

The primary purpose for draconian restrictions would be ensuring that only those who earnestly believe in the project of democracy would submit. There needs to be an extremely high personal cost to wield political power. The stumbling block is an ascetic lifestyle. A true political servant.

A similar restriction would be required of new canadites seeking election. Before announcing your candidacy, or soon after (within 30 days), you must renounce and relinquish ALL of your investments, inheritances, land, assets, etc. If you lose the election, you can not repossess assets for 10 years.

For one, politicians should not even be allowed to privately own ANY stock. Any and all investments owned by politicians should only be inside a publicly available retirement pension. Politicians should permanently be barred from owning businesses, owning land, and having a wealth cap in perpetuity.

Politicians ought to follow the servant leadership model. The only reasonable way to obligate a politician to be a servant of the people would be binding agreements that permanently kneecap political office holders financially. The higher the office, the greater the financial restrictions imposed.
