A fellow lefty! Holding it in my right hand feels like I’m trying to spin with someone else’s fingers.

I read that the distaff was usually held in the non-dominant hand - tried that and nope. Gonna have to be a little anachronistic there because my dominant hand is my drafting hand. And then there’s the added challenge of learning how to dress a distaff in a functional way.

It’s such a cool technique! I’m still working the kinks out because it’s a very different way to draft for me, but I try to do a little each day.

The detachable bottom whorl spindle is the traditional type for Medieval in-hand spinning! It’s a fun technique, you build your single hand to hand instead of letting the spindle drop with the single building above it.
