This was Kirkwall harbour, #Orkney on #ArmisticeDay, taken by Tom Kent. In The Orcadian newspaper on the 14th November 1918 it was reported that upon receiving news of the armistice 'the shipping in harbour and the streets of Kirkwall were quickly bedecked with bunting...'

The kits are FREE to borrow and can be loaned for up to 14 days at a time - borrowers must be registered library members, aged 18 or over, and all borrowers must sign an equipment loan agreement.

Interestingly when William Irvine and his wife Sarah lived in New York in the 1780s, the population of Manhattan was around 25,000 which was not much more than #Orkney at that time.
Today the population of Orkney is around 22,000 while Manhattan has grown to 1.6 million. 🎃
