Chase Utley played in the perfect era for defensive metrics to adulate him...but too early for awards voters to notice.

Today at The Lewsletter, I probed an alternate timeline where analytics had been part of Gold Glove voting during Utley's prime — and how that would change his Hall of Fame story.

Every year on Memorial Day, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring.

They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died.

France also gave us this land as American soil.

Sneaky of them to reveal a photo of Christian Bale as Al Davis and Nicolas Cage as John Madden from the upcoming Madden film while we’re all going insane for the Andor finale.

Long before Rory McIlroy was on TV as a child prodigy and before he became known as golf’s tortured, brilliant loser, Harry Diamond 𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙬 Rory.

Which is why Sunday's Masters moment was as much for McIlroy's caddie as it was for him.

A lot of young #Orioles players have been excited to talk to 41-year-old Charlie Morton this spring. A guy with "infinite wisdom," as Zach Eflin put it.

Has Morton enjoyed talking to those younger players and beginning to build relationships with them?

MLB teams' increasing reliance on their bullpens is a manifestation of optimized pitching strategy. Starters' performance wanes as their pitch counts rise and batters get multiple looks at them. Relievers keep getting nastier every year. It's just smart baseball.

But what if it's not?

During Adam Jones’ prime from 2012-2016, the Orioles posted a 444-366 record (.548), the 4th-best record in MLB and the best record in the AL.

Jones’ consistent production and leadership made this run possible. The team never got down on themselves, it was always get ‘em mañana after a tough loss.
Today let’s remember Adam Jones. My all time favorite Oriole. Fan favorite and team leader Jones played 11 seasons in Baltimore. 5 time All Star and won 4 Gold Gloves. His Clinchmas victory lap in 2014 is still one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. #StayHungry
