I grew up in the 60’s living in a flat above a butcher’s shop. The Saturday afternoon 4pm meat auction meant I had to fight my way to our front door. As for Christmas Eve, if we weren’t home by 2:30pm, there was no point trying!

My then 6yo daughter wrote “my mum says I am a cleaver clogs” in primary school diary. Kids now almost in their 40’s, “cleaver clogs” is family shorthand for “congratulations” at times of success. Her 2yo son called me a “silly sausage” yesterday. Genetics.

Yes I had a spinal tumour which was so embedded they had to sever some nerves during removal, resulting in a substantial permanent loss of mobility. They reckon it had been growing since childhood- I was 52 at the time. Sorry to read of your health difficulties.

It looks nice. I don’t see anyone on crutches, pushing a walker, using a wheelchair or mobility scooter though.

I went to bed one night 12 years ago this month after a day in a well paid secure NHS job, and woke up the next morning unable to walk. Nobody has any idea what hidden secrets their body is about to reveal, nor the impact on their lives.

The 1980 BBC P&P with David Rintoul is sadly forgotten. Well worth watching.

I hope you’re right. I’m on ESA which is still run by the DWP, and my transfer from PIP to ADP resulted in a reduction of the award. Not yet convinced the SSS system is fairer.

I think selling it is illegal in Scotiand.

In the late 60’s, my Nan (born 1895) read an article to me in my “Look and Learn” comic about an Edwardian kitchen, 50 years previous, which she remembered and discussed. My 1960s childhood kitchen is now 60 years ago! Really scary.

Was trying to explain to my kids in their 30’s. “No texts/mobiles so nobody knew who would turn up or had got the message. No FaceTime, so phone recorded interviews. No way of distributing song beforehand. Physical attendance required as no way of recording remotely and emailing..” and on and on!

It’s not “now a thing”. Some of us have been supporting hospices financially for years. If we had proper funding for hospices and palliative care, folk wouldn’t be “screaming agony and pain”.

not a contest but for context- I’ve been in pain since 2010. Lost mobility in 2013 due to an op to remove the tumour. Had to fund my own mobility and living aids, pay over the odds for accessible housing as “there’s no money”. We need to restore a better level of care to all who need it.

Your argument about “the status quo means people currently dying in agony”; what will the impact be on those who are terminally ill but don’t want to end their lives early? If we now have to fund AD too, how will we ever have the money to fund effective palliative care for those who want it?

That is nice! I went for the Zolo as it was a Black Friday deal but next time I’ll try your second recommendation. There will be a next time as I am forever lending powerbanks to my children and grandchildren, never to be seen again (powerbanks, not offspring, they come back!)
