A long long time ago, after a particularly nasty fight with Valentino, Angel had seriously been contemplating stepping out during the extermination. Getting himself double killed. He'd said as much to Val in the throes of their argument. Angel had never seen Val so angry before or since. However the storm subsided by morning and with it came… Fat Nuggets. A little piggy so small, so innocent, so pure that was all Angel's. Fat Nuggets had looked up at him with the most trusting and adoring eyes. Angel vowed to give the little piggy the best life he could afford. Fat good he'd done with that.

Husk withdrew a flask from his pocket, taking a swig. "No, but honestly, I'm not preparing these losers for getting into heaven. We don't know if that’s even possible. I'm just trying to make them better people and give them a place to vent so maybe we can make Hell not so rotten. Don't tell the princess." Angel mimed zipping his lips shut. Fat Nuggets oinked, begging to be picked up. Husk indulged him, scooping up the little piggy into his arms. "Now enough work-talk. I've had enough for a lifetime."

Then there was the heavy sound of footsteps running down the hall. "Angel!" Husk sounded upset. Angel squeezed his eyes shut. It sounded like the memories came back. Great. Just great. Loud knocks pounded on his door. "Angel, open up!" He didn't want to but Fat Nuggets was already wiggling out of his arms and spinning in excited circles that someone was at the door. Angel got to his feet slowly, feeling like death herself. He opened the door. "Angel. We gotta go." Husk said immediately, a crazed look in his eyes. He ran into Angel's room and turned on him as if he was a herding dog. Fat Nuggets oinked excitedly, acting exactly like an animal and let himself be herded out into the hall. Angel on the other hand stood frozen. What the hell was happening? "Memories are back." Husk said between breaths, still trying to urge Angel out into the hall. "C'mon we don't have much time."

The Hazbin Hotel shone like a lighthouse in a storm. Despite himself, Angel relaxed at the sight of it, hobbling up to it as fast as he possibly could move his weary body. Pushing the door, Angel grunted as he finally made it inside, stumbling a bit after the effort of opening the door. It was early in the morning, most of the residents would be in their beds. One second Angel was there and the next the limo was speeding away, Angel along with it. Husk was left on the curb, heartbroken, confused, and perhaps more importantly, lost. But that didn't matter. The love of his fucking life, who just looked like he was fucked sideways for hours on end, just absolutely blindsided him with all this. Why hadn't Angel stayed? Why had he lied? Why couldn't he fucking tell Husk the truth? Had he ever told the truth? So many questions and absolutely no answers. Tears flooded his vision, so much so that he didn't notice the darkness at first. Then there was a hand on his shoulder, cold and gripping. "What do we have here?" A sickly familiar voice sounded in Husk's ear. Alastor. "A sad little stray kitten. Why have you run from home?" Husk felt his lips curl back in a snarl. "Leave me the fuck alone." The threat wasn't probably the most threatening given Husk was obviously crying. Instead of letting go, the hand squeezed Husk tighter, bruising. "Have you found it, pet? Your closure?" A hiss rose in Husk's throat and he whirled, claws out. Three lines etched itself into Alastor's cheek. Blood dripped from Husk’s claws. And still that smile stayed painted on.

"How was your day? You were what? Filming something?" Angel swallowed down the amber liquid. Work had honestly not been that bad. Valentino wasn’t really there. It was just a hectic schedule with Travis and the other crew to try and pump out as many scenes that they could to stay on schedule. It was that period right before award season that they knew the quality of films they made didn't have to be good. All the good shit was already submitted. They just had to make filler films that Vox could put up on his streaming service. Speaking of award season. If Husk didn't get his memory back in the next few days, that might prove to be an issue. Angel would be on TV going to XXX award show, his clips would be everywhere, posters on every cab and bus in town. If he wanted to keep this a secret, he'd have to be ultra careful with Husk. "Surprisingly okay." Angel admitted. "We wrapped a bunch of films last week and I was filming some makeup scenes two nights ago. The director is now hounding the editing team before the big award stuff." Husk frowned. "That seems awfully fast. For a full movie?" In a word 'yes' but Angel didn't want to get into specifics of how little people actually cared about the beauty of editing porn. "Short film." "Ah."

Angel’s plan should work. Husk didn't see why it wouldn't. If this casino was where he spent a lot of time, like Angel said, then it would be helpful in getting his memories back. And there was an emotional tie to it. Like Husk's emotional tie — of hatred — to Alastor, and his tie — of love — to Angel. There was a sense of intrinsical discomfort here. "C'mon baby!" Angel attached himself to Husk's arm which was absolutely ridiculous because the spider was like three feet taller than him. They looked ridiculous. "Let's do a lil blackjack, some poker, what about roulette? What's calling your name?" The bar. Husk thought but didn't say, side-eyeing the nearest bartender and the bottle of whiskey over their shoulder. Angel was trying his best, he was giving him options. Least Husk could do was indulge him. "Roullette?" Angel perked up and pulled Husk in that direction.

"We have a pig." Husk commented, stepping into Angel’s room, greeted immediately with Fat Nuggets snuffles and oinks. 'We have a pig,' echoed in Angel’s mind. The immediate assumption that the two of them would live together would live in Angel's mind for a while to come. "What’s his name?" "Fat Nuggets." Angel choked out. Husk bent over to pet the pig between the ears. "Of course you would name him that." "Hey!" Angel was brought out of his thoughts just enough to be offended and to shoot back. "How do you know that you didn’t name him?" Husk scoffed, shooting Angel a grin that made the spider's heart flutter. A look that said 'we both know damn well I did not name this pig Fat Nuggets'. He looked so much like his old self. He sounded exactly like Husk making fun of Angel for his pet's silly name. Just like the person Angel had fallen in love with. Fuck. Angel had to look away before he did something stupid like cry.

You're not in a fur suit, this is your body." He gestured to Husk's furry body. "You're in Hell and you're dead, have been for a while." Husk hated every single word coming out of this guy's mouth. But he couldn't fight some instinctual fear in his spine. He wanted to fight. To run away. To tear off this fur suit just to prove the guy wrong. The radio guy looked around as if in deep thought. "This time… you're in the hotel. Oh we haven't done this dance here yet.” He smiled like that was exciting. “You work at the bar downstairs, serving the residents drinks. You work for me. Husk sighed, setting down his empty glass. He'd talked with Thomas briefly about how to broach this subject with Angel and Thomas had just straight up told him 'I'm not qualified for this shit,' and ran away with one of his therapy books. So that had been no help. Husk had to do this blind. And for someone who had never cared this much about a romantic relationship before now, he hated how out of touch he felt. He loved Angel and didn't want to hurt him. Didn't want to say something stupid or make incorrect assumptions. And he didn't want to make whatever was going on worse.

This past month had passed in a blur for the two overlords. They talked, argued, made up, and very occasionally — if Husk initiated it — made out. The casino was running as planned except for today. The doors locked, lights off in mourning. Angel planned the entire day with ceremonies and food and drinks to mourn and celebrate the sinner's Hell life. It's what he would've wanted if he were to pass. He knew what it was like to feel owned. That dehumanization. But even Husk admitted that a happy soul was a more productive soul. Giving back some autonomy and dignity would benefit them. This was the first step.
