Knitter, quilter, cross stitcher, reader, Geneology cemetery wanderer….
Photo of Finnish sweater that I’m knitting. From book Knitted Kalevala. Designer Jenna Kostet. I am using the same earthy colors even though I don’t usually wear green. I will modify neck so it’s not so wide. Otherwise I love it!! Celebrating my Finnish heritage here on the Oregon coast.

My sister made me a “Race” quilt from a pediatric Jelly Roll that I had. You just sew end to end with the 42 strips and then cut. It’s only supposed to take 2 hours but it took her a couple of days. It will be fun for my great nephews to play on.

Next quilt.
My sister & I read about
the removal of Harriet Tubman's info from the National Park Service's 'Underground Railroad' webpage. (Has been restored after some protest.) Bev decided to make a Log Cabin quilt that historically signified safe place to rest on trip north. Some of the colors.

At a quilt show in Aurora Oregon. Very small town 20 miles south of Portland. Famous for antique shops. And annual quilt show at the Old Aurora Colony Museum. These two quilts were at a show there several years ago. Love these old fashioned patterns and colors.

I was visiting my sister & went to Quilted Strait in Port Gamble,WA. I saw this stunning wall hanging. Designer Krista Moser. I bought the kit. The lady said it does have a lot of pieces but has clear instructions. I wrote to a friend & she said she has faith in me. Take it one step at a time.

St Peter’s Quilt Show (The Dalles, Oregon)

A Crazy Quilt that has passed down through several generations. Note the tiny flowers on some of the sections. It is draped over an antique organ. I’m not a big fan of Crazy Quilts but this is historical (fabric over 100 years old) and beautifully sewn.

At the St. Peter’s Annual Quilt Show in The Dalles, Oregon this weekend there were a couple of appliqué quilts. Absolutely gorgeous! And I loved that these two ladies were nose to nose with the tiny pieces. (I did the same.)

Annual Cherry Blossom Festival (thousands of cherry 🍒 trees!). Part of the festival is a quilt show. They used to use another building but a volunteer told me “We are getting old! We couldn’t get all the quilts hung from the ceiling.” So now it’s at the old Catholic Church and hung over pew backs.

Finally finished sewing on the binding for the quilt I made for a friend having surgery soon. She put it on her sofa where it looks great.

I was in a yarn store in Astoria, Oregon last summer and a tourist (we get a lot of them in the summer) was visiting and I saw her tattoos.
KNIT FAST. DIE WARM.
I asked her if I could take a photo. She smiled gently and said yes. I love meeting knitters. We are an eclectic group of people.

I was on vacation in Bend, Oregon & went to The Quilt Basket. Saw this Christmas fabric & with no project in mind bought a ton of fabric. Already made 2 different quilts & STILL have more fabric. For a friend having a hip replacement. #quilt #TheQuiltBasket

Cape Disappointment Lighthouse on WA side of mouth of Columbia River. In the distance is Oregon. Storms & heavy surf made it great site for Coast Guard Motor Lifeboat School. There was an old saying painted on 1 of their buildings. “You have to go out. You don’t have to come back.” #Lighthouse

Cape Disappointment at mouth of the Columbia where it empties into the Pacific Ocean. 2000 shipwrecks have occurred over the past several centuries here at the bar. It is one of the most dangerous river bars in the world. #Lighthouse #CapeDisappointment

A retired Coast Guard friend told me to look up this nautical alphabet flag chart. It makes the photos from Norwegian Point photos make more sense. #NauticalAlphabetflags #Norwegianpointpark #Hansville #Kitsap

Chief Seattle’s grave. Often people leave little gifts. From Google: “The name of Seattle actually comes from Chief Si'ahl (pronounced “See-ahlth)…” While standing at his grave if you turn and look across Puget Sound you can see Seattle. #Suquamish #ChiefSeattle #Kitsap #Seattle
