wait. Actually it approaches (R-1)/(R+1) - |x|cot(pi/(R+1)). The shift upward of the limits is precisely the same as the limit of where it crosses the origin

In the limit it approaches two lines of points at the angle 180deg/(R+1) from the y axis. So for example, for R=2, it approaches the lines y=|x|/2.

"The moon is a harsh mistress" is a really famous story. She forgot the part where flinging rocks from the moon requires a massive railgun which only a much, much larger space program would be able to build (and currently NASA is almost being defunded)
