Cool kinda modern idm type album that takes a tour of a few different areas of electronic & dance music and does something a bit unusual with them all.

Listened to this one a few times now.

Am a big fan of DA and this new rock-y direction was initially a surprise but makes sense given a lot of the music I've seen him point to as an influence, also feel like he's kinda leaning more into his synth-pop side.

Ah yeah I do like that kind of effect a lot though to be fair, often work a bit of subtle or obvious sample & hold or some other kind of randomisation into my synth patches.

I do hear you with that and there's definitely an element of what's happened is I'm no longer finding the effects magical because I understand them, but part of me also feels like, there must be more we can to manipulate audio than this? Like a lot more?

I feel like all the new effect plugins I see are like a refined version of what already exists and I want something completely different that makes a new and unique sound.

I used to play guitar before I made stuff on the pc so those were all old to me before I started this but I remember finding bitcrusher and sample rate reducer plugins and it was a totally new and exciting sound that didn't exist with anything else and I want that feeling again.

I was having similar thoughts towards that too, I'm not as familiar with other directors or films using low budget tech but it made me think about how there's no rule which says films have to use the most expensive & pristine cameras.

hahaha, I can't even tell if that's a serious suggestion or not!

agreed, after I did some reading on it and had time to think about it, it did seem to be expanding on similar ideas in other areas too, particularly with how women are treated by the film industry.

oh wow, I had no idea about that with rabbits, it looks very professional considering!

oh also to my shame have not yet got around to Twin Peaks but sure I'm going to really like/love.

I found myself thinking about the format a lot as I was watching and how if a director with less acclaim had used cameras that looked cheaper people (and me) would just think "low budget" but because it was him I was thinking about why he was using them.

yeah I felt like Mulholland Drive came the closest to that of the ones I've seen but Inland Empire dived into the idea a lot more deeply and was also more willing to throw things at you and leave you to figure it out, which I enjoyed!
