Our game did ok! Not as good as I hoped but not bad at all. Top 12% or so across art/enjoyment is good enough, but we'll be back next year to try again!

Making a game with a friend for #gmtk jam -- this is our 30-hour mark progress. It's a vampire survivors-like where you draw circles with your mouse around enemies to fight. Another 34 hours to go!

Never got around to concluding this travelogue, but at the last week I just got hit with so much misfortune. The Wolf Bar Asakusa was unusually closed the one week I was in Tokyo, I got sick :(, doujin&manga I wanted to buy got sold out the day before I arrived, hotel door's handle fell off, :((((

Visited the lab I used to work at back in 2014. Honestly, a strange feeling seeing a project you worked on tirelessly for 6 months grow after 10 years. Apparently they're going to apply the sensors I worked on, to detect anomalies in cow milk. Very cool, but made me feel like I peaked in undergrad

Visited a cave yesterday where a samurai spent his last days meditating (Reigandō). Honestly did not realize that the word cave refers to any old hole in the hill, always thought of them as being large underground chambers.

Went to Nara park where I passed by like, three signs warning me about how aggressive male deers could be. I then proceeded to see the most chill, unaffected deer ever (he ate a deer cracker from me, which some nice people were kind enough to share)

On the way over I passed by a bookstore so I checked out their video game development section. One that caught my eye is ゲームで学ぶPython, which teaches you Python with the guidance of this anthropomorphic cat. Unfortunately, the code is very Python 2-based... could be stylistically better.

Day 2: Holy crap, if you get the chance to take the Shinkansen (and have a reason to travel), definitely try it at least once. It moves incredibly fast, and it's a very comfy ride. The entire first half of the trip I was like, "is this thing _still_ accelerating??"

I also finally played 英傑大戦 after ignoring it for 10 years because it has no furries unlike Lord of Vermillion 3. It's a real interesting tactics game where you control groups of soldiers by moving literal cards around a surface. Pretty fun!

Next I hit up Yellow Submarine to see what was new in Japan's board game scene. Gamedev marketing note: board games will sometimes get entirely different box art to appeal to a target audience.

Next was to hit up a nearby Mandarake for some secondhand furry doujinshi. Noticed that the furry section is now half a bookshelf, which is like three times as large as the last time I was here. Found a really good one by @ponzutas.bsky.social

Day 1: kobold gets a pretty good fortune and finds a pretty temple nearby. But accidentally going in the opposite direction of anything cool, I've managed to miss nearly everything cool in Minato but it's ok I'll be back
