Haven't played it myself, but I think the aim is definitely to be melancholy or poignant.

It's a ttrpg where you play anthropomorphic animals journeying home after a war/catastrophe. It has a focus on reflection and character moments as opposed to tactical combat.

This has unlocked something truly terrible in my brain. The Starks are Presbyterians? Freeborn Jon Snow? Oliver Cromwell, but he worships R'hollor? After Cersei and Aurane Waters in AFFC, the ship money jokes just write themselves.

Not a whole lot of laughs per page for me, but the punchline with Death playing the pub trivia game was one of the funniest things I've ever read.

Initially read this as "Switch to bridge (card game)".

From one guy with a derailed fed career to another, things are hard and it's natural to feel demoralized. I don't have any real advice, but failure is not permanent and it's not an identity. It's just a shitty town you're stuck in awhile on the road to better things.

I think it's a philosophical problem about vague definitions. If you heap together grains of sand at what point do they become a pile? If you pluck hairs one at time from a man's head at what point can you call him balding? Etc.

Well, in fairness, it won't be two plus million for long.

I'm not sure the mass firing of probationary employees on the basis of poor performance (when no poor performance exists) and outside of a formal reduction-in-force is legal. I think it's ambiguous because this kind of thing hasn't happened before. Unless that's what you mean by "some exceptions".

Thanks, I was saving up to move out my parents' place, so I'm not in an emergency financial situation, but this is definitely going to hurt my career, and a lot of others have it far worse.

As someone who was illegally terminated by email at 8:20 on Friday night, I really appreciate you making the distinction.

Lol at Canada being bigger.

But it's unclear exactly what the newly hireds' rights are. They were all fired for "poor performance", but will that claim hold up in court when they were fired with form emails despite having good perf reviews. This kind of thing just hasn't happened before in federal hiring/firing.
February 16, 2025 at 9:21 PM
The "newly hireds" probably also have a case b/c, despite what Trump and this letter writer claim, newly hireds are only supposed to be fired for poor performance, lying, or a couple other things. Probie status was never intended for mass firing outside of a formal Reduction in Force.

The "been there for years but moved to a new position" cohort, almost certainly has a facially obvious case for illegal firing. They legally have full civil service protections.

Sat through his YouTube "town hall" yesterday before I was fired from DOT by email a few hours later. I have never seen someone struggle to answer pre-scripted, softball questions so badly. His tone and body language were so off when talking about the DCA crash, just barely pretending to care.
