I literally already included injured animals, even if its healed if its blind or cant fly it will just die if released. And zoos trade animals to avoid inbreeding. A pug tiger wont do tigers any good if we only breed the same line to itself forever

While thats all well and good (and i dont disagree) but we cant even get them to pay taxes for eliminating hunger and homelessness in fellow humans. We have a long way to go to get them to care about the rest of the planet

Sounds like you aught to be working on improving your local zoo then! Im sure there are groups you could join to help push local funding to improve the facilities near your home

Sheldrick is an amazing organization! (the way they do things is by far the best solution i have ever seen and the rewilding rate is astounding)

Sadly they can not save all endangered animals alone, still many zoos also have rewilding programs as well, look at the california condor for its success

wild animal capture for zoos ended years ago, the only new wild animals introduced to zoos now are in case of extreme injury or special circumstances(such as the last of the California condors being captured so we could monitor and boost their breeding rates which saved the species)

Wait so you are FOR species extinction and habitat destruction as a whole? Because some of them might experience some stress in the process of protecting the entire species and planet??

Weird take honestly....

Every baby is important to conservation of the species, this little ones babies or grandbabies could one day roam their native lands.

This very much is a thing to celebrate.

The attention this little one gets makes people aware of their plight, it raises money to protect their habitat and more

I feel like you need to learn more about zoos then, their animal ambassadors do a lot of good. They have entire programs for teaching animals to participate in their own medical care to reduce stress. There are entire species we wouldn't have anymore without zoos (like the cali condor)

Who may i ask, is paying for this "legitimate" conservation? Do most people know what animals are endangered animals? Do most people know why many of these animals dont make good pets? Zoos to a lot to make people aware of the problems as well as fund programs to help the animals

Well someone cant read apparently

Nope! Elephants are more closely related to things like dugongs, manatees than tapirs. While tapirs are more closely related to rhino and horses than to elephants.

If you are going to come to the conversation with a dishonest request for citations (aka not going to accept anything handed to you no matter how good) why comment at all

Conservation, awareness, population boosting, spearheading medical care for captive and wild individuals alike, spearheading anti-poaching funds/efforts. Do you need more detail? Google is free

Yep! Even as adults, its just very very sparse and short. The babies are extra fuzzy though, looking like tiny woolly mammoths

Zoos do amazing things for conservation, this little baby will have a fully belly and medical care all its life, there are plenty of worse fates for these amazing creatures.
