Absurdly obsessed with my favorite color.

Approaching old age in my chosen hometown of Dallas, where I frequently walk or take DART. Fortunate to be a constituent of TX-30. he/him

Today is one of the many days of gorgeous Fall/Winter/Spring weather we have in Dallas. While I keep clicking on the Epstein email stories and refreshing @txnewsprincess.bsky.social’s City Hall coverage, Max enjoys the Afternoon Sunlight show on Channel 2 in widescreen surround-sound smell-o-vision.

The #NoKings protest in #Dallas was quite soggy after a very intense downpour but it didn’t dampen spirits or deter the downtown demonstration and march. Clear skies and an inflatable rainbow graced a later event focused on preserving the rainbow crosswalks along the Cedar Springs gayborhood strip.

At least the Genesis mosaic is in a safe place at the DMA. It does show its age in spots though. I stopped there and took this picture of it a couple weeks prior to the mural pic.

This fun and quirky mural on Lee Parkway by Michael Shellis with its ”Life’s Great in Dallas” message was being painted over when I walked by today with new “art” to advertise the office building behind it. Glad I took this photo not quite a month ago on a similar trek through the neighborhood.

After that job and century ended, I still went back often and took hundreds of photos. These are all from various months of 2010. It’s a wondrous place that has too often been neglected.

Your photo of Downtown Dallas with the caption “What else could go here?” is grossly misleading and out-of-date. A new park, Pacific Plaza, has already replaced that surface parking lot.

When you published the story originally, I mentioned this in a comment on your site that has since been removed.

2025-09-20: Max says sometimes numbers are a big jumble to him, but he definitely knows today is #Caturday and he's pretty sure that the "somewhere" where it's already five o'clock right now in that saying people say is right here. 🎉

Just finished “The Payback” by Kashana Cauley (@kashana.blacksky.app) and am compelled to recommend it to everyone I know. It’s funny and timely and raucous and captivating. Devoured it in a single evening, it’s that good.

It does get a little more colorful once a year.

It’s #Caturday! Max’s suggestion for celebrating involves curling up on a favorite bowl of corrugated cardboard and watching the birds on Channel 1 (the living room picture window).

2025-07-26: Max reports that Caturday is splendid so far, as he digests a huge brunch on his favorite cushion in the sunlight.
July 26, 2025 at 2:51 PM
2025-07-22: “You may pick up the brushes and begin.”

Max says every day can be Caturday when you’re 15, have very simple but very specific wants, and don’t know or care how calendars work anyway.

2025-06-28: Max’s #Caturday plans are falling into place quite nicely so far.

A favorite message from the pics I took today:
Beware the flimflam man.

2025-03-08: Max commemorates another #Caturday.

2025-03-01: Max wants to remind everyone that even if the finest catnip banana known to Cat is within reach of your paw, sometimes the maximal joy of a given moment can be found in a new piece of old string. #caturday

Made a point of snapping a pic this dreary Dallas afternoon, as I walked to my DART stop after some errands, of the prominent and poignant neighborhood mural that seems especially relevant in this moment.

(Brian Kenny painted it in 2019. briankenny.work/newshome/201...)

Max’s Monday advice: After enjoying a luscious evening meal, remember to spend some time curled up in your ridiculously oversized beanbag that no one else is allowed to use.

Max’s Sunday self-care involves staring out the window after screaming and fussing for a favorite cushion to sit on because polyester shorts and bare legs are not appropriate surfaces or textures for sitting.
November 24, 2024 at 5:29 PM
2024-11-17: Max is 14.5 years old now and wants to remind everyone to prioritize self-care whenever possible. This can be as simple as demanding the appropriate type of fabric to sit on and focusing both literally and figuratively on the tiny sliver of sunlight that peeks through the overcast sky.
