So many of these changes correspond directly with Lego City’s full launch in 2005. This was a big moment for Lego reestablishing itself with a more modern look and streamlined set of pieces.

Still, there were definitely some cuts that have you asking “But why?”
RIP palm tree trunk. Taken too soon.

Becoming a vintage Lego enthusiast is realizing that so many of the classic pieces you used to find in every set and never gave a second thought about actually went out of production entirely in the early 2000s.

I remember I had a copy of Railroad Tycoon 3 that I never got working right as a kid so this has been a long time coming. I’ve never been the greatest at business sims, but this game just oozes style and charm. Fantastic soundtrack too! :D

Imagine particle effects from this lesbian-flag-colored gradient overloading the game

Look at this cool 🅱️ I drew! 🐝

I’ve been smitten by @jamieb0i.bsky.social’s adorable bee lady, Bea, so I just had to give drawing her a go! :D

I used to get a train catalog as a kid and I remember this painting being used as a cover once. I thought it was cute but I also felt it was a bit odd seeing Santa Claus play with HO scale trains. In my mind Santa was a Lionel guy, so it was kind of like seeing him drinking Pepsi instead of Coke.

Swear to god last night I googled “730mm” just to quickly convert it to inches while half asleep and google’s dumb ass straight up ignored the second m and pretended like I asked for 730 meters for no reason. Very useful.

Head up, @/dylkill.bsky.social appears to have had their account hacked. If you get a message like this ignore it.

There IS something cool about the way old model railroaders had to wrangle “electrical circuit through the rails into train” into a logic puzzle of switches and relays to redirect current to only the engine they wanted to move, instead of “well, there’s a computer that tells the train what to do”.

You used to have to become an amateur electrician if you wanted to make a sizable layout with precise multi-train operations. Nowadays all you have to do is run feeder wires up to the track every couple feet. So much easier. ^^

Reading up on DC Cab Control. You always see people mention Block Control when explaining DCC and DC but they rarely mention that you can use SPDT or rotary switches to select from two or more transformer “cabs” to power each block! An ingenious system lost to time by the dominance of DCC.

If you’re okay with classic toy train style, Menards actually makes some very affordable track! It’s almost identical to old Lionel tubular track, to the point that it’s fully compatible. You can also use the old technique of additional black-painted wooden ties and ballast for a more complete look.

Looking at the Stone Arch Bridge on my commute today and thinking about the millions of Great Big Baked Potatoes that must have crossed it in Northern Pacific dining cars rolling out of Great Northern Depot over the years.

I- I can’t stand it. It’s too much for my poor heart, too beautiful.

I wonder how Penn Central felt about Marx making toys of “old-fashioned” steam locomotives in their name while watching all their actual infrastructure rapidly aging and deteriorating. I feel like that would be kind of “insult to injury” idk lmao

WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE

I didn’t realize I had that many followers. Thanks, I guess? 🧡

Not sure how many of those are bots but I imagine if we could somehow not count those this would still be a pretty respectable number.
