Salaries, job titles, and department assignments are public information already. It’s also possible to do FOIA requests to find out detailed agency actions. Not sure what more you expect.

$450 million is the operations cost, not the building cost.

Reminds me of when a large chunk of the legal field was aghast that SCOTUS carved a special exemption for the fed when they ruled that the president can fire political appointees, meanwhile finance bros were basically calling it for months.

I actually don’t hate the idea. Department of Defence for an agency that mostly does offensive operations is kind of Orwellian anyway.

There hasn’t been a draft in over 50 years. The US fought multiple major wars in that time, some requiring significant manpower that needed a large deployment of reserve troops, yet no one ever even thought of a draft.

It will definitely hurt the US since India and China will now have to compete for oil from Saudi Arabia, Canada, Nigeria, etc driving prices up for everyone.
There are realistic questions about their capability, but the Houthis have been hitting tankers and they’re even worse off.

By that logic inflation alone devalued 20-50% of people’s student loan debt, essentially functioning as a forgiveness mechanism. Funny you ignore that.

You’d have to compete against all the PhDs laid off by federal agencies looking for industry work. Frankly, just a terrible time to be a scientist in the US.

I think he is a good VC and has an eye for niche things that will make money (bought into Tesla, saw the opportunity in NASA privatisation that was initiated by Obama). But, things would run so much better if he was more hands off, like Buffet style management.

Kind of the opposite of my experience. Visited for the NBA All Star game and basically every sidewalk was closed for repair and your choices were to either walk into 4 lane traffic or walk through the construction zone.

Nothing, I was an E-nothing, its not like I could do a "I told you so."
I did look him up a few years ago, he eventually became a two star who works at the pentagon.

When I was in Afghanistan during the Bush years I requested to take the foreign language test for Russian. My CO laughed and said it was a useless language. Later in the deployment we were ambushed, the guys turned out to be Chechen and I had to translate for them…
