Here's a side view using the exact same data.

I do have high quality GIFs, but they were over the size limit and I couldn't post them.

Hey there! Been a while, but I come with a custom GIF that I hope works on here. Basically it's using Driveline's biomechanics information and it shows 2 pitches thrown in sync with each other from the catchers POV.

Made a 3D swing path with 3D strike zone using the Driveline Biomechanics project.

I wonder if we should be talking about the strike zone less as a 3x3 grid and more of a 3x3x3 grid given how it needs to be covered.

I also want to show you all this animated bat path plot that I made using the Driveline Biomechanics data that I also shared on the other site.

A very early work in progress here; got a 3D plot of contact points for hitters. I really like the way it looks.

Once I'm more certain the data is plotting correctly, I'll feel good about splitting it up into other plots like BIP result and swing angle, among other ideas.

Jackson Jobe's 4-Seam fastball location by game via a KDE plot with a whiffs scatterplot overlay.

So far this year, more #Tigers hitters are making contact deeper than they had last year. And that's without Vierling, who made the deepest average contact for the Tigers in 2024.

Just something to watch and see if it continues.

Here’s a breakdown of Jackson Jobe’s 4S and Sinkers when he’s ahead in the count and when he’s even/behind in the count. The larger dots represent whiffs. Far higher percent of the pitches are in the zone when he’s ahead vs not, and that’s where he has his whiffs. (1/2)

Austin Wells hit a home run that had an xBA of .150 -- amazing.

Casey Mize has had a fantastic spring so far. His average release points seemed to have changed this spring vs last season. This seems legit.

Casey Mize avoiding the heart of the plate tonight. Loved his outing. #Tigers #RepDetroit

#Tigers Jackson Jobe didn’t throw a sweeper, he threw his curveball today. He’s got nearly 500 more RPMs, +3.8 MPH, and -4.8 IVB vs the average curveball last year. Also, look at this PA lol.

Excellent thread here. Not of any surprise for fellow Parker Meadows fans -- his wRC+ splits by month greatly increased in the second half of the season vs the first half. The changes in swing length helped him out tremendously.

Like this one for Isaac Paredes. Though he has two months. But still not the crazy gap like Torres.
January 2, 2025 at 4:58 PM
He also isn't terrible when playing right on 2B. This is both his career and in 2024 alone.
January 2, 2025 at 4:18 PM
Check this out. New #Tigers 2B Gleyber Torres OAA by month in his career. He loves to play defense in June it seems.

This is fun! Any guesses which pitcher this might be?
December 19, 2024 at 7:44 PM
The #Tigers having just three guys above zero, which isn't entirely surprising given they're a bottom 5 team in SB attempts. But I was surprised to see Zach McKinstry at the top by a huge amount.

I’m most of the way there!

Here's a large screenshot of the dataset. It's very interesting! Zone 4 has roughly 200 fewer BIP, but only 50 fewer hits including more HRs than zone 5.
December 4, 2024 at 6:48 PM
Those showed up really weird. Let's try that again.
December 4, 2024 at 5:50 PM
I think it's a combination of the TB vs BIP (I double checked, it's SLG for balls in play). Like zone 6 -- there is a lower total of BIP and more TB. I'll check what Savant would have, though they do ranges for whole numbers only. So I wouldn't be able to say 69.5 - 70.4 like what I've done.

Here you go! Got a few minutes of free time that I wasn't expecting. Made the rounding change as well as a handful of other slight changes. Much larger sample sizes.
