I did the MOOC already (as well as further courses at Lancaster) so I a not personally affected. My understanding was that this course is meant to get more researchers interested in this fascinating method. I have my doubts that this strategy shift helps and wonder how the price hike is justified.

Audit access on edx expires after a couple of weeks, where on futurelearn it did not. Price for the certificate version was less than 100 USD on futurelearn. For half of the new price on edx one can get a full year unlimited subscription on futurelearn.

This used to be a very affordable course on futurelearn. With the change from an UK to an US provider, the price changes to a hefty 600 USD to earn a certificate. Free is only the audit access. I have my doubts that this is the right strategy to make corpus methods known to a wider audience.
