Must have liberal democracy and progressive policies. Nature is my church. Science, art, humor, Tao, kindness, acceptance. Ret'd ad producer and motion camera. Here to learn, laugh, meet, interact, care. And to fight the MAGA oligarchy and AI.
Seen in NYC last week. AI is quite literally dehumanizing. Not to mention the insulting irony of the AI company name here: Artisan.

Reposting this for mental hygiene today:

Patient meadow sun pauses
warms two souls for whom
time has no meaning

Nice choice!

This is a bit off the brief, but Lincoln always looked impressive, even wearing this ridiculous lid.

Again, the changing of the seasons. What a difference a couple of days make.

Trees remind us that nature is constantly changing, and that what can appear to be destruction is also creation - a dynamic process of which each of us is a part.

What a little sunlight can do to you . . .

Looking up through the Japanese ornamental red maple in my yard. This past week the maples have been spectacular around here.

(Billie Holiday's recording of "What a Little Moonlight Can Do" is a great listen, too).

October in Wisconsin has become, well, October after a bizarrely warm start. It's time for the final back yard veggie harvest of the year, and what'll be some pepper refrigerator pickling.

It's a Dog Bowl (in name and grain only). Made from cherry burl with old-fashioned and power hand tools, 14 inches end-to-end. To my eye it looks to be rotating slowly counter-clockwise, which would make it a northern hemisphere bowl (any Coriolus effect fans here?)

A bowl made from claro walnut, ten and a half inches end-to-end. Sometimes there's a trade-off when sanding/finishing a hardwood: Finer grit would make the surface smoother but allow less finish (a hard wax oil here) to soak in and show off the grain and colors.

Last autumn my dear departed doggie friend, Jake, and I were strolling and sniffing beneath some sycamore trees, where these great big leaves were scattered about. Here's one I brought home.

One more hand-carved bowl, this time from a little cherry burl. I like when you can see the original shape of the branch in the finished bowl.

(2/2) . . . of German descent, and he was certainly aware of what was happening to German Jews in Europe. During the war he was passionately patriotic and anti-fascist. Here's a poster I found in a box of my great-aunt's belongings from the time:

New cherry burl bowl, 12 inches end-to-end. Carving began with a mallet and chisels, then hand power tools, then lots and lots of sanding. Finished with oil-based poly.

A couple of new honey locust bowls. Last summer I was driving home and saw some logs stacked by a curb with a sign "free wood." Having something of a honey locust jones I came back with a ramp and rolled a few into the back of the station wagon. More to come from that score.

Aughhh! Just think what $100bn could do for the health of our planet if invested in solar, wind, and tide power across the globe.

Seems to me that the unregulated greed and irresponsibility of Big Tech have become more dangerous to humanity than right-wing governments, which come and go.
