Opossum Butt Kentucky Chamber of Commerce
@opossumbuttky.bsky.social
The chamber of commerce for Opossum Butt Kentucky, a small (fictional) town on the banks of the Opossum River.

An escapist project. Stories and characters are fictional. As a Kentuckian, I wish to explore the folklore I grew up with. Images are AI.
Come on down to Big Bear’s Coffee and Candle Shop where you can have a brew and share a loooong gaze with a stranger.

It’s been a hard luck in Opossum Butt, but as the unwelcome waters reside James Johnson declares his freedom from this miserable tides.

Keep safe and dry. We will get through this.

The Dingus family are known known for their bottle trees. This might be from that time Uncle Lucky got kicked in the head by a mule, but they started to have trouble with haints, evil spirts for the uninitiated.

Black History in Appalachia can be spotty but in 1968 Dr. Martin Luther King and the Rainbow Coalition for the rights of the working poor, included the Young Patriots who flew the rebel flag. History my friends is complicated.

Man, eggs are expensive. Farmer Johnson says don’t go to the Kroger. He’s got you covered. Instead of paying $7 a dozen he’s happy to work something out under the table. Just don’t ask too many questions.

There’s a sale on beef at the Krogers. Get them before the cows come home!

Residents of Opossum Butt:

Our Friend Carla Jenkins found this old tin-type photo of town founder Martha Adams just before she was left behind by her first husband Jethro on their journey west. Most folks don’t know, the original name of our town was Shithead’s Landing referring to Jethro.

Opossum Butts, your friend and mine Dirtybeard Couch caught these buggers rootin’ thru his trash last night. As the snow melts, you never know what will come of those woods.

- Keep your pets inside
- Don’t leave your trash out at night

The one in the back looks pretty big.

Folks temps are falling, remember keep your cattle from freezing. Here’s some tips.

* Insulate water tanks
* Place tanks close together
* Use a barn heater of 30,000 BTUs.

Don’t bring cows in your house. No mater how cute they are cattle make terrible house guests.

Snow has fallen is Opossum Butt, blanketing the roads and givin’ folks a reason to skip church on Sunday. Preacher Jones said he has a sermon filled with fire and brimstone to warm ya right up but I’ll be home with hot coffee and a Snuggie.

Stay safe out there and keep warm.
