I finished Kamala's book. It's great, and easy read with a day-by-day account of her perspective of the election. The juicy stuff is now well known, she's critical of Biden's decision to run but much of that is directed to "Biden's team" extensive to her work as VP. 🧵

Millions of Catholics waiting, again.

And even the unfaithful among us... photo by my wife from our travel in 2015, Piazza San Pietro.

Here's one term that aged like milk. It's curious the all-time peak is early March, 2X previous peak of Jul'18 but collapsed already.

We folks with "TDS" have been calling Trump a criminal, Fascist, autocrat, incompetent, Putin's puppet, etc. since 2016. And we were 100% right.

Hey NVIDIA where's my bugfixes

Bonus 1: Hey Microsoft where's the promised DX12 update with DXR 1.2, Neural Rendering, DirectSR

Bonus 2: Hey MachineGames where's promised Indy patch with RTX Hair, was that just Blackwell vaporware

I ignore engagement-spam "Likes", but this one gave me pause. Someone selling Tarot stuff.... not really the focus of posts🤣 BUT it's Tarot with AI and Quantum Software! Maybe they genuinely like my gaming/tech content.

(Nah, just spam triggered by keywords like "magic" in my last post.)

Here's ghosting, in the middle of flashlight's projection.

These issues are now arguably rare enough and small enough to not matter anymore.. still, I noticed those things while just playing normally, without "looking for it" I swear. 4K on 32" = you see every minor fault lol.

Same game/test, confirms 9070 XT = RTX 5080 but also shows in prev gen Radeon was a full tier behind with 80-class SKUs losing to NVIDIA's 70-class etc. At the top the XTX only beats lower-tier 4080S because this game likes bandwidth, but even that doesn't help enough for the 7900 XT vs 5070 ti.

True in RT, also aspects of AI-even Raster to a lesser extent by fixing some weak points-but not everything, there are areas where RDNA 4 overperforms both gen-on-gen & vs Blackwell. Here's a good example not from me; Raster-only mode but that's one test where you can't say result is just catch-up.
April 13, 2025 at 3:02 PM
And this I also observed in my first story about the 9070 XT, FSR3/FG doesn't work. But I had not tested that on the 7900 XTX so apparently that's a RDNA 4-specific, agree with Fabio it looks like a driver issue but now for the new GPU only. 🔚

I benchmarked Sen. Booker's filibuster! Still running but stats so far.
- Took US record from a long-forgotten racist fuck
- Blood Caffeine: 27 µg/mL
- Bladder strength still 15%, good for another 2-3h, not bad at 55yo
- Voice loss only 7%
- Ability for off the cuff talking:♾

Wow that's a chonker! Nice touch of XFX to include the absolutely essential anti-sagging gadget.

And thanks AMD for reaching out & sampling me, I'll get started with testing once I finish my current article. Very curious to look at many aspects of RDNA 4.

Back to ARM's report: here the curves show perf of several strategies to render a scene. Some are OMM, others are bitmask or texture based methods. OMM generally wins with either SW or HW impls:
* SW (3080): mixed, can go from -30% to +16%
* HW (4080): solid win, from -2% to +29%
March 25, 2025 at 7:00 PM
Opacity Micromaps (OMM) are coming to DirectX 12 / DXR 1.2, so the question is whether AMD and Intel will support that since they don't have special HW in their RT Cores. And how a non-accelerated implementation could perform. I have some answers!🧵

2) DLSS/RR runs on top of that to do denoising.

The paper clarifies even though NRC can be considered a denoiser, it can be integrated to a separate denoiser; that's what happens in NVIDIA's stack with NRC + DLSS/RR. Where RR should work even better because the input is better.
March 24, 2025 at 4:50 PM
It improves, less than I expected. Part bc of what I comment here. But also the underlying render apparently has some issues, for one thing thin metal pipes at a distance with a strip of specular reflection look unstable and aliased even with DLSS; even CNN should for better. But it gets decent.

Goddamn NVIDIA, I'm ready to bite the bullet and take what I can get but even this RTX 5090 combo is out of stock.

Did you ever notice Trump NEVER picked a fight with Rachel Maddow? This is the totality of the mentions in his old Twitter account, with a solitary weak shot in 2019. Last week (on TruthSocial) was, I think Trump's first-ever real jab against @maddow.msnbc.com. Why is that?

Major news now on Brazilian TV, a plane full of undocumented Brazilian immigrants deported to BR but subject to degrading and cruel treatment - 48h on handcuffs, footcuffs and chains, which is specifically not allowed by extradition treaties, plus airplane without working AC and other issues.

I have a particular obsession in music: songs that use purposeful mispronunciation of a word for effect, typically for making rhyme or meter. This is very common but there are levels of greatness. Here's one of my favorites, can you remember without listening? (Classic version by Simon & Garfunkel)

4) Extensibility. All modern IDEs support powerful plug-ins. Even built-in features are plug-ins, the "core IDE" is just a plugin framework. Eclipse is a pioneer with full microkernel architecture. See below diagram of that microkernel *alone*; the IDE is many layers and plugins on top of that.

What did people do if they needed "advanced" features like remote debugging? Oh, they bought a dedicated and pricey tool like MultiScope, with other cool stuff like conditional breakpoints. And a serial cable to connect to the machine where the debugged program runs, that stuff was low-level AF.

Summarizing Casey's example: old VC++ booted and loaded projects instantly, could step-by-step over a program with zero lag to update variables and other debugging views. I remember that, I started in college with MSVC++ 1.5. Damn thing was responsive like Notepad.
