Joseph, Oregon offers so much in the way of exploring and connecting with nature…alpine lakes, endless miles of trail, and access to some of the most stunning forests and canyons are just a few of the gifts this little mountain town has to offer.

We are so lucky to call this place home!

Carl Jung believed that healing requires us to face our unconscious selves—the parts of we don’t yet understand. His work laid the foundation for much of modern psychology and deeply influences the field of psychedelic-assisted therapy.

While OPI’s curriculum is grounded in research and evidence, it’s also shaped by the wisdom of nature.

In 2006, a landmark study at Johns Hopkins led by Dr. Roland Griffiths found that psilocybin can lead to deeply meaningful, mystical-type experiences. Two months after their session, most participants described the experience as one of the top five most meaningful of their lives.

1/4: Roland Griffiths (1946-2023) was a pioneer in psychedelic research, dedicating his career to studying psilocybin’s therapeutic potential. His work at Johns Hopkins challenged conventional views, showing its ability to treat depression, addiction, and end-of-life anxiety.

1/2: Grof understood that psychedelics, when carefully administered, could dramatically deepen our understanding of the human mind and mental health—just as the microscope revolutionized biology or the telescope transformed astronomy by enabling discoveries that were previously impossible.

1/2: Optimizing set & setting is the most important step a person can take before embarking on a psych*delic experience.

In the case of psilocybin, it’s enzymes in the liver (CYP-450) that dephosphorylate psilocybin into its active form—psilocin.

It’s this molecule, psilocin, that has consciousness-altering effects on the brain!

🧠 If psilocybin could make its way to the brain, it would have no effect.

That’s because psilocybin is a PRODRUG, a molecule that needs to be converted (by the body) into an active drug.

2/2: His 12-volume Florentine Codex became one of the most detailed ethnographic records of the time, preserving Indigenous knowledge for centuries.

His work reminds us how vital it is to honor and preserve cultural traditions.
March 8, 2025 at 9:29 PM
1/2: Ahead of his time, Bernardino de Sahagún documented the rich cultural and spiritual traditions of the Nahua peoples—including their use of sacred mushrooms, teonanácatl, the “flesh of the gods.”

1/3: At OPI, our mission is to elevate psychedelic practices through evidence-based education.

That mission is made possible thanks to our passionate team of instructors, like Dr. Matthew Lowe, who bring a wealth of knowledge to the table.

1/5; Exploring the depths of consciousness should be carried out with both precision and care. When it comes to enhancing the psychedelic experience, there are two primary controls at our disposal. Those are:

1) Dose
2)Safety

We love this graph, which shows the combined harm score, defined as harm to user (blue) + harm to others (red), of 20 psychoactive compounds.

Before zooming in on the names, can you guess which compounds were found the highest & lowest harm scores?
