Ending birthright citizenship sounds simple — until you ask what hospitals, parents, and even families with uncertain paternity are supposed to do. Should the U.S. follow countries like France and Australia, or stand by its founding promise?

If parents come to America seeking opportunity and give birth, should their children be denied citizenship — or is that the very promise of being American?
