If we then compare UK to its main economic peers, regardless of the exact form of their health system, UK medical consumables procurement looks a lot like them in 2019 but it is very differently in 2020, using much larger direct awards for much longer.

NHS or not, European procurement in categories like 'medical consumables' are widely & consistently reported under EU's Procurement Directive (inc by UK at the time). In 2019 UK's share of EU procurement notices is entirely consistent with the size of its economy...

Thanks @openuk.bsky.social. We had a great session on #opengov & #opendaata. Very struck by Lord Wei's remark: citizens now have unparalleled flexibility over their consumer experiences; it's no surprise that they are getting angry with slow, paper-based gov that can't even collect bins on time.
