you either have to be willing to let a lot of things go OR be so aggressively yourself that other people stop trying to change you. #blacksky Working twice as hard for half as much is still plenty true today. That's not okay.

There's been a lot of growth and change. Plenty of improved representation and access for sure. But let's not pretend like the system allowed any of that willingly or like the system isn't constantly trying to stop it from growing. Success is certainly not impossible, but to gain success

This doesn't mean people, in general, won't trust and believe in their own success and therefore not try at all, people do that all the time. This is about labeling a whole group whose place in the system of power has remained largely unchanged for a century as "self-victims."

Examples include: Serena Williams (still experienced the effects of systemic racism in the medical field that could have killed her), Beyoncé (the "ownership of country/pop country" by conceptualized whiteness, her prior superbowl "scandal" smh), Obama (this should be obvious), and more.

I'm hyperlexic, it's a blessing and a curse 😅. Sometimes, I read faster than my brain can encode and decode the information. This is generally okay with fiction since past info is regularly referenced, but it's an issue with nonfiction because each line carries its own weight.

I'm excellent at timed reading responses and terrible at everything else. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

To clarify, reading "too fast" basically means I can generally tell you the beginning, middle, and end of a story, but if you want any details at all or if you want to discuss a specific chapter, I'll often say "I don't remember reading that," even if I just finished the book.

In that case, I buy a book but I feel guilty.

If I'm in a bookstore (especially a small bookstore) imma buy at least one of the books we were discussing. Barnes and Noble is sometimes live browsing though 😂 (I have a b&n membership, I swear I buy lots of books there too). I always walk into a bookstore to buy a book, unless I shouldn't.
