It also helps to know what your fans are there for. An artist that draws primarily nsfw of one kink may alienate their crowd if they try something new, so be aware of that and balance out having fun and improving your craft so you don't get burnt out.

From what I've learned: a firm grasp on fundamentals (perspective, proportions, color, etc.), understanding when to break these rules, and the context of the art you're making.
