I think the EC is long overdue to be abolished. We have seen that it does not really protect us from the "tumult" and bad decision making that it was alleged to protect us from. Our best path to eliminating that is to improve education.
I see that as critical and urgent!

By giving each state electing power proportional to their representation in congress it carries over the 3/5ths rule into the realm of electing the executive. IMO it carries over the slave state's STOLEN power from those they have enslaved.

None of the papers ever address what I think is the MAIN reason the EC exists. That being to preserve the electing power that the 3/5ths rule gave to slave states.

The same applies to his lauding the fact that the EC does not hang around as a group to whom the President owes his position, saying instead that the Executive should only owe his position to "the people themselves". But ignores that the EC is just in the way of that in the first place.

He holds up as an advantage of the EC that there are several electors, making it harder to bride or extort them. But never addresses that the people at large are many times safer in that regard (at least before the Internet).

I'm not sure if Hamilton was being insincere about the electoral college (EC) or if he was just being a good cheerleader, but I have always found his logic on it a bit shallow. There are several things left unaddressed.
