She raised her claw, using her energy to summon a shield—protecting her mortal frame. No use. No chance. No hope. The faint glimmer of solrathian willpower shattered into a thousand pieces. She watched the splinters of light evaporating with wide-open eyes—frozen in soulless stillness.

Dyrn slowly turned his neck, eyes wide open. "Are you sure it's out here? We didn't find a single trace of it so far. We've been marching for..." "Be quiet and follow the prince's orders," Ahlarik interrupted, gaze still on the path ahead. Dyrn lowered his head, pressed his lips together and — after a short moment, kept walking. Aldynn's eyes narrowed. "Ahlarik? Why did you choose to come here with me?" "...wanted to see what the prince is capable of." No one was here to save the kobolds from harm.

She stumbled. Falling. And then she felt fur around her waist. "Careful." Her gaze snapped to his face. Eyebrows raised. A strong arm indeed. Totally capable of fixing the rope. More proof. And if there were any bugs in that fur? There was time to worry about it. Later. Very brief eye-contact. This guy doesn't look like he ever smashed something. To pieces. TO PIECES. "Ah... thanks..." The first and last thanks he would ever get.

"Power, my son. They all want it, and neither of them should have it. No one." Aldynn's eye twitched. "No one?" It was a genuine question — about what felt like an insult. His father knew him, and yet he said it. Images of his brothers flashed to his mind. A sharp inhale, followed by an averted gaze. "Yes. It is tempting. Destructive. And when you are still young... alluring." Once the most powerful dragon in the world, and now the softest of them all. And yet... that dragon's voice still carried weight. He tilted his head. "How do you propose I shall protect, if I have no power?" Curiosity was etched into his grin. How would his old man respond to that?

"Start killing things," she barked at the general. "No, no, no, what are you all doing?" he said, aimlessly looking around. Very predictable. Thalvorrian defeat. Once again. The other soldiers are running for their life. Some of them are running, and some of them are flying. Ah, shit. Feathers. Guy should have stayed home. Get the legs moving. Don't slip. Ignore the stench. Blood. Iron. Feels like home. Right at home. Keep. Moving. The general was still dancing in circles. That's what it looked like. "Retreat or die, stupid idiot," she yelled. "I won't. I'll never-" and then he opted for dying. Sword right through his chest. Oh, and that's a wolf's claw around his neck. Quick twist - loud crack. Sucks to be a thalvorrian general. Also sucks to die for one. Couldn't be her.

There it was. The confidence she missed. Being close to that wolf was putting her off. In a good way. No. A bad way. Stop it, brain. Stop it. She was walking towards the front of the boat, assessing the situation. You can't decapitate every problem. Would be so much easier if you could. "So what do we do?" "I was hoping YOU had an idea." Well. This was awkward. She wasn't only stuck on the boat with him, but soon after, also on the bottom of the sea. What a dream.

"Hey! You there! Need sssome help?" Where did THAT voice come from? Her skull? Maybe she needed a sledge-hammer right now. "Yes, some help would be appreciated." She turned around. Hale was speaking to some sort of... fish... guy. "Throw the rope into the water!" Hale heard what the fish guy said. He looked at her. Just stared. Like he needed instructions. Cute. The pup does not know what to do. Wait... did I just... "Do it," she barked. Her eyes narrowed and her head tilted a little. "Throw it out," she yelled. "It's right beside you." Oh. Right. Don't blush. You're not an idiot. You kill dragons. For breakfast. She shook her head, leaned down and threw the rope over the rails. The fish guy took it.

Then he heard something. The air was singing. Carrying a song he knew too well. Unexpected, but surely not unwelcome. Clicking from behind. There was no need to look. He knew perfectly well, who just dared to interrupt this conversation with his father. "Saleera." "Not even turning around for me now, are you?" And there she was. Bright as always. White scales, soft golden marks, regal grandeur and full of attitude. The good kind. Or so he thought.

No signs of exhaustion. No signs of his body resigning. No signs of his mind being present. She spread her wings - now a mockery of their former beauty. Merely bone and muscle. Nothing of her grace left. She was trying to keep a steady grip, but her claws shook, and the sand fled; it slipped away. "It's time for you to visit mommy and daddy, Aldynn" There was no shift in his expression. But there was in hers - when she finally understood. She no longer anticipated this fight. No longer a reckoning. The climax to this story no longer belonged to her. Because she knew - it would take a devastating turn. She never learned to suffer.

"He took everything from me" Her faint whisper trying to cut through the darkness. "Your light is undeserving of existence," the void echoed. A storm. Fire. Heat. Burning. Pain. Blindness. A screech of agony. Wings reduced to ashes. A light sniffed out. Scorched, wounded, damned and broken, she dropped out of the sky. She was glimmering on the horizon like the shining radiant dragon she always believed she was. Like a burning bright comet. But it was not her presence stirring a fire in the hearts of her witnesses. It was his.
