Exactly -- I see it as a kind of criticism or editorial response. In effect it's telling me what is interesting to readers and what is not.

Not sure if the authors note this, but if there is actually an increased rate of adoption for each (as the graph suggests), it may be because each tech is the platform for the next. The PC revolution laid the ground for web adoption, which laid the ground for AI development, production, and use.

Rephrase it as the good of history. Tech folks sometimes think humanities is all about edgy culture criticism. But its hard to refute the value of historical research and writing, and it is harder to imagine it being replaced (though not supplemented) by models.
