On this day (1/30) in #sports: 2000 - The St. Louis Rams AKA “The Greatest Show on Turf” win Super Bowl XXVIV over the Tennessee Titans by one yard. TEN WR Kevin Dyson was tackled by STL LB Mike Jones just short of the goal line to hold onto the Rams’ 23-16 lead as time expired.

On this day (1/29) in #sports: 1995 - Steve Young gets the monkey off his back, leading the 49ers to a win in Super Bowl XXIX over the Chargers. He was named Super Bowl MVP after throwing for 325 yards and 6 touchdowns, as well as rushing for 49 yards.

On this day (1/28) in #sports: 1949 - Gregg Popovich is born. Since naming himself head coach of the San Antonio Spurs in 1996, he has won five NBA championships. He also holds the record for most wins by a head coach in league history with 1,408.

On this day (1/27) in #sports: 1969 - Chuck Noll is named head coach of the lowly Pittsburgh Steelers. They wouldn’t be so lowly for much longer, as Noll would lead the team to four Super Bowl wins in the next decade. He remained head coach until his retirement in 1991.

On this day (1/26) in #sports: 1997 - The Packers win Super Bowl XXXI against the Patriots. Desmond Howard is named Super Bowl MVP as a kick returner. He gained 244 total return yards, many of which came on a 99-yard kick return touchdown in the 3rd quarter with the Packers up by only one score.

On this day (1/25) in #sports: 1980 - Xavi is born. Known for his elite playmaking, he is viewed as one of the best midfielders of all time. He was a key piece of many trophy-winning Barça sides, both domestically and in Europe. With his native Spain, he won the World Cup (‘10) and Euro (‘08, ‘12).

On this day (1/24) in #sports: 1982 - The 49ers’ dynasty begins with a a 26-21 victory over the Bengals in Super Bowl XVI. Although the 49ers were out-gained in total yards 356 to 275, they were able to take advantage of the Bengals’ costly mistakes by scoring 20 of their 26 points off of turnovers.

On this day (1/23) in #sports: 2015 - Klay Thompson scores 37 points in one quarter, setting a new NBA record. He would finish with 52 total points and the Warriors would go on to defeat the Sacramento Kings 126-101.
