We have modified Shadowrun to work with more modern settings by simply limiting items. I think that would be easier than adding modern things to D&D. You could also look into the Dresden Files RPG. I am not familiar with it so I do not know if it is good but it is magic set in a modern setting.

I had a similar one that used to be my dad’s as a kid. Mine made this horrible buzzing like sound that kept getting louder. It was so so learned to wake up at the soft click it made before the noise started. It was pretty old when I got it so it eventually died and I had to get a new alarm.

This is going to be a problem that happens more often when all the land lines stop being supported. I hope they have a plan for keeping emergency lines up in natural disasters.
