Dipping my toe (or rather, my pen!) into fancy fountain pen inks. Just finished swatching these beauties and am so keen to use them 😍 no idea what for though, seeing as I don’t write that much by hand anymore.

I was massively dysregulated yesterday so took a break to play a day of My Late Father’s Correspondence* and it was exactly what I needed to get out of my head and distract me from the sounds contributing to my dysregulation. 10/10 recommend

Here’s the comparison. They are both pretty bright white, my camera just is doing weird things with the white balance. Pilot Kaküno if that makes a difference 😅
And I rounded the corners with a corner punch. Keen to hear recommendations for a POD that does rounded corners!

PSA to anyone getting hard cover books printed by Lulu: they’re just perfect-bound with a hard cover, not case-bound as you might expect by the phrase “traditional hardcover binding”.
And fountain pen ink feathers terribly on their heavier paper, so it’s usable but not ideal for custom journals.

Nearly? Are they bigger elsewhere? This is just the size we get here.

I’m FINALLY reading The Love Hypothesis and am absolutely mortified that my reason for doing a PhD is almost verbatim what Olive’s is. Although I have enough faith in the psychology/autism research community that someone else would research this if I don’t, so at least I have that going for me 🤷🏻♀️

Are you autistic and living in Australia? If so, please consider completing my research survey. It takes 45-60min and will help us understand the experience and impacts of autism identification, to try improve access to autism identification. tinyurl.com/autism-uc14359 #autismresearch #psychresearch

Oh my. I’ve recently started seeing child-clients at the psychology clinic I’m working at, and this scene from Such a Fun Age hits so hard. My heart breaks for this kid. And also, my brain breaks at the insight this kid has (she’s 3 years old in the book). From the mouths of babes, indeed.

Here are the template guides. Hopefully legible in this format? Sorry to screen reader folk, I promise I’ll put full text versions on my website someday soon.

I finally finished tweaking my new journal and listed it on Etsy!

The main thing that took forever [read: I procrastinated on] was the template guide at the front. There are a lot of new templates like priority planning/self-care plan/habit development etc

I feel like the paint job and basket are what makes a bike cute, and it just happens that those vintage bikes tend to be pastel. Like imagine this e-bike with a brown seat and a basket up front 😍
maybe if you want to go the extra mile, swap out white splash guards and hand grips instead of black

Colours chosen for the next embroidery project! Blue for text, grey for airplane, blue-grey for path, off-white/pale pink for nails, and dark tan/very light brown for the hand.
Technically the nails are DMC543, which DMC describes as “beige brown - ultra very light”, but it looks beige-pink to me.

In case anyone is interested, here’s my embroidery “design” process.
1: choose the affirmation/quote.
2: create a square image canvas, add dashed circle “hoop”
3: insert the quote
4: insert line drawings to create suitable composite image.
5: realise better idea and repeat 4.
6: print and trace

This is the feeling I get every time I finish an embroidered square for an eventual inspiration/affirmations quilt. But I’m really pleased with the colours and how my stitching has improved over time and the way the chain stitch and the satin stitch work together here, sooo… have a pic?

I did!! I think I’ve got one more iteration to go before it’s exactly right, but it’s just minor changes around the brim now. Ponyback make a magnetic one but it’s more fashion-focussed and rigid, doesn’t seem like it would stay on well in a strong wind (whereas my one does).

Smoothie experiment update:
1/4 cup cocoa, half a banana & a generous chunk of frozen raspberries is a tasty addition but doesn’t quite mask the flavour of the plant-based protein powder. It would probably be delightful with a whey protein powder though!
Thanks for the inspo @coreeena.bsky.social !

I think I need more cocoa/chocolate than the chocolate protein powder offers, as the raspberries were the overwhelming flavour, and the milk went more pink than chocolate brown. But it was definitely tasty! Trying with some added cocoa powder tomorrow.

I also ordered prototypes of new personal journals. The focus journal is an updated wellness journal, with more daily reflection space and weekly/monthly planners added. The research log is similar, but is 7x11in and has different daily prompts (kept mindfulness and hydration though!).

I couldn’t resist, made two more cushions, bunnies for my bestie and dragonscales for me, both backed in minky because sequins are the devil to sew.

My embroidery floss order arrived today and all the colours make me so happy 😍 I haven’t done as much stitching as I wanted this year, but I somehow managed to run out of all the pretty colours, so this restock lets me finish some pieces I’ve been planning.
