I kinda thought you were riffing on James McConnell’s 1960s experiments in memory transfer in Girardia dorotocephala.

Largely rejected over the years as unreproducible, but I wonder if these snail studies might end up vindicating McConnell in the long run.

I’ve just discovered the wonder that is Ruthanna Emrys’ Innsmouth Legacy series.

It picks up in the aftermath of The Shadow Over Innsmouth, but from the perspective of a surviving Marsh daughter.

And it’s fantastic.
