My first gilled mushroom of the year. No identification due to it being surrounded by swamp water. 📷📸🍄

Tonight, the j shape has been achieved, by morning I'll see the crysalis. Stay tuned! My goal is to photograph the whole life cycle. Note: this cat decided to pupate on the milkweed, after investigating the patio table. Its unusual but not unheard of.

A pretty, powdery amanita. Perhaps Amanita daucipes, or some kind of lepidella.

I moved the last egg to a safer place, four feet from where the butterfly put it. I believe indoor rearing and too much human interference isn't a good idea. I don’t try and save every egg or caterpillar I find, but aim to increase the odds a bit, against the ridiculous amount of predators here.

Finally had a Monarch butterfly! Now I have eggs, and in a few days, caterpillars to peer at.

The wild milkweed looks much healthier than it does in my own garden. Mine doesn't get enough sun or nutrients I guess.

Went to a patch of milkweed near my job because I thought I saw a flutter...found a monarch hotspot. #invertebrate

My little milkweed patch has no monarch eggs or caterpillars yet. I've spotted a few in my state, and one was sighted a few miles away and posted on iNat, but so far my milkweed is perfectly fresh and uneaten.

Eastern King Snake. Rare/threatened species in my area. 🐍

This bird is looking down at me so cutely.
June 11, 2024 at 12:38 AM
Not 100 percent sure but when I see caterpillar damage and several cut milkweeds, I can assume someone poached the caterpillars for their own garden. Sad, when I was just going to log them on iNaturalist.
