Working in nature restoration. Skeptical that market forces and tech will bring down CO2 emissions.
One major difference being, if everyone was a denier we'd be in big trouble. If everyone was a fatalist the political conditions would have changed so significantly that we'd probably be in a good spot to save ourselves.

The blog post says low compute was $17 - $20, with high compute being up to 172x more compute. That doesn't give an exact number buts it's a lot more expensive than ~$20

So Incredibly disappointed to see many people in my feed reposting this article positively.

Didn't realise we should just be nicer to oil and gas and "bring them onboard" with us and everything will turn out thanks to the power of tech.

This article needlessly gives an absurd amount of ground to trivialise the environmental movement as "moral crusade against fossil fuel villians"

Isn't this just espousing the neoliberal status quo? Anything other than trusting in the market really was just a bunch of silliness all along?

You know that probably the defining distinction between right and leftwing politics is the approach to class and capitalism right? Like those things specifically.

Not trying to upset you, I think everyone in this space ultimately wants the same thing.

It often feels to me like people are fighting a strawman around this topic. Some people struggle being constantly told they should be overly hopeful. Most "doomers" I know fight hard for the climate/ecosystem.

Sure but this entire comment section is just filled with people saying everything is going good and everything will be fine? That even if it's not fine the US will be fine?

This is the preferred attitude? This is going to lead the massive work required to stop catastrophic climate change?
