Working on a set of Turtles. Getting a but stuck, but I think Raphael may be done. Also: reading the original comics and generally annoyed that 80’s corporate execs apparently decided that nerds couldn’t be black (Baxter) and women couldn’t be programmers (April). #tmnt #minipainting

A lot like the beige and the skin, but with some darker browns. I made sure I was layering highlights as lines in the woodgrain.

One of the things I still struggle with is getting good contrast. How the contrast is done one of the biggest factors in making something look shiny, like the gems. The range of high to low over a short space is key. I feel like I could have done more here.....

Universal Shade and Light:
I picked up the habit of using Ice Yellow and Abyssal Blue as sort of go-to add ins for highlighting and shading. Often, I will use the Blue thinned down as kind of a glaze or wash to pull the shadows cooler and darker. The Yellow gives a warmer vibe than white would.

Greens and some beige. The Irati green is a nice color, but the Scale 75 colors are very translucent, so it was a bit of a struggle - i recommend a different paint unless you have a lot of patience. The abyssal grey I use a lot watered down as a shade rather than a layer.
