1) brat/brat and it’s completely different but also still brat - Charli xcx

NO SURPRISES HERE but my top album of the year was brat. I am cheating by including the remix album too but I don’t care. This was an insanely good album, loved the beats and synths, loved the rollout, loved the aesthetic.

2) A Dream Is All We Know - The Lemon Twigs

One of the most fun power pop rock albums I’ve heard, loved their previous two albums, and this is just the smoothest, sublime album they’ve made to date. Instantly and insanely catchy, could be an endless repeat album if I wanted.

3) Loss of Life - MGMT

MGMT continues to be a very important band to me, and this album is no different. Was excited but worried after they split from Columbia but the wait was worth it. Really no skips for me, this one stuck immediately and hasn’t left since.

4) Imaginal Disk - Magdalena Bay

This one didn’t click at first even though it had some very catchy moments. But a couple of thoughtful listens later and I understood the hype. Strong start, middle has a lull, and finishes strong too. Would love to own this on vinyl.

5) Diamond Jubilee - Cindy Lee

Just discovered Cindy Lee and this album this year and I’m stunned by this album. Hauntingly beautiful at moments, instantly nostalgic and catchy. Very long double album at over 2 hours. Some stronger moments than others, could maybe use a shorter tracklist.

6) Only God Was Above Us - Vampire Weekend

VAMPIRE WEEKEND IS BACK BABY!! Feels like a perfect blend of old and new VW. This one did have to grow on me after repeated listened but it clicks for me now.

7) Girl With No Face - Allie X

Been a fan of Allie X for a while, but this album I feel like she finally did something truly unique for her. Very district 80s electronic sounding album and I loved it on first listen.

8) Parallel Dreams - STRFKR

This one I’m not surprised I liked, but I am surprised it’s the first full STRFKR album I’ve listened to. Couple skips here and there and gets a lil long, but otherwise very good album.

9) Flight b741 - King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard

Little shocked myself that this one is so low on my list, but I attribute it to enjoying these songs performed live over the studio version, and honestly expecting more of a southern rock sound at time of release. Still fantastic for KG!

10) Adult Contemporary - Chromeo

I love what Chromeo does with their music, just fun funky dance rock. I enjoyed this album but I understand the critique of the schtick getting tired. They went more synthy and “adult” with this and looking back the lyrics do get weird but the grooves are good.
